Customers may often abandon their shopping carts because of the extra shipping costs. By offering free shipping options at checkout you can encourage your customers to complete their orders. There are a few different ways that you can set up free shipping options in your online store.

Free shipping for all orders

You can offer free shipping for all orders in your store and still cover your postage. For example, you can cover the costs of free shipping by slightly increasing the prices of your products.

To add a new free shipping option for all orders in your store:

  1. From your admin, go to Shipping & Pickup.

  2. Click Add Shipping Method.

  3. Select how you ship your goods (by a shipping carrier or a local delivery service) and click Set up.

  4. Click Set up Free Shipping.

5. Enter the Shipping name of the method that is displayed for customers at checkout.

6. Click Set delivery speed and enter the time it takes for orders to arrive when shipped with this method (optional).

7. Click the Set shipping region to specify the destinations to which you ship with this method.

8. Click Save & Finish.

Now the free shipping option will be offered for all orders shipped within the set region at checkout.

Free shipping in a certain area only

You can offer free shipping to all orders that need to be delivered in a certain area only. For example, offer free local delivery (and paid delivery outside your city) or offer free shipping within the US (and paid shipping to Canada or no shipping outside the US).

To offer free shipping in a certain area only:

  1. From your store admin, go to Shipping & Pickup.

  2. Click +Add shipping.

  3. In the Local Delivery block, click Set up local delivery.

  4. Select Free delivery.

  5. Enter the name for this delivery option and add its description for customers, if needed.

  6. Click Set delivery zone.

  7. Сhoose the area where you want to offer free shipping:

If you haven’t yet segmented the areas where you deliver, click Manage zones and create different delivery zones basing on how you are going to charge for delivering online orders there. After that select the zone for your free delivery option.

To offer paid shipping to other areas, set up additional shipping options (for example, flat rate, real-time, or custom rates — see all shipping options) and remember to pick your other delivery zones while setting them up.

Free shipping over a set subtotal or weight

Free shipping for orders over a set dollar amount or total order weight can motivate customers to buy more than they have planned to.

To add a new free shipping method for orders over a certain subtotal or weight:

  1. From your admin, go to Shipping & Pickup.

  2. Click Add Shipping.

  3. Select how you ship your goods (by a shipping carrier or a local delivery service) and click Set up.

  4. In the "Conditional free shipping" section, click Set up Conditions:

5. Enter the Shipping name of the method that is displayed for customers at checkout.

6. Choose what the calculation will be based on – Subtotal or Weight.

7. Set the subtotal or weight range over which the shipping will be free.

8. Enter the zero to the Rate per order field.

9. Click Set delivery speed and enter the time it takes for orders to arrive when shipped with this method (optional).

10. Click the Set shipping region to specify the destinations to which you ship with this method.

10. Click Save & Finish.

Now the eligible customers will be offered a free shipping option at checkout.

Product-specific free shipping

You can promote particular products (or product categories) in your catalog by offering free shipping for them. To set up free shipping for a particular item in your store:

  1. From your admin, go to CatalogProducts.

  2. Open the product that you want to ship for free in editing mode.

  3. Switch to the Tax and Shipping tab.

  4. Check the options Free Shipping in the Shipping rates section.

5. Click Save.

When the option is enabled for the product, customers won’t be charged for the shipping of this item at checkout.

TIP: You can let your customers know that a product has free shipping by adding a Free Shipping icon to the product details page.

Coupon for free shipping

You can offer free shipping to all or certain customers by creating a discount coupon for Free Shipping and giving it to them. Shoppers can enter their coupon code in the special field in the shopping cart to get free shipping on their order:
