Some products in your catalog may not fit into the general shipping calculation you set up on your Shipping & Pickup page. Products that require special packaging may cost more to ship. Or maybe you need to send certain products in a specific manner (e.g., courier pigeons). In the event you want to cover any extra incidentals (we hear the pigeons don’t always return), you can set up individual shipping rates.
To configure a product-specific shipping rate:
From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
Click on the product that requires an individual shipping rate.
When on the product editing page, switch to the Tax and Shipping tab.
Select one of these options: Use global rates, Specify shipping methods for this product, Fixed rate per item, or Free shipping.
Use global rates (default option)
If your product doesn’t require any special shipping fees or delivery conditions, this may be your best bet. You can add a fixed fee to the rate (calculated according to the general shipping settings) as a surcharge to cover extra shipping costs:
Specify shipping methods for this product
This parameter allows you to create a list of enabled or disabled shipping methods for a product:
For example, if a product can be delivered with a particular shipping method only, add it to the “white list”, so that all the remaining methods are disabled. The other way round, if your item can’t be shipped by a specific method, you can add it to the “blacklist” and it will be disabled at checkout.
TIP: If a customer’s shopping bag has items with conflicting shipping methods, we will provide a warning for the customer to split their order at checkout.
Fixed-rate per item
Fixed-rate per item (a.k.a. fixed shipping rate) is a flat amount that will be charged per item quantity:
This option is useful for products that require an individual shipping price. If you specify such a fixed rate per item for a product, this rate will be used to calculate the shipping cost for delivering this product to the buyer instead of your global shipping rates (if any).
Free shipping
Any quantity of the product will be shipped free of charge:
TIP: You can offer free shipping on any product by building in your shipping costs to the price of your merchandise (you’re welcome).
5. Click Save.
Once set up, the shipping cost will be calculated for your customer according to each item’s product-specific shipping settings.
F.A.Q.
How can I add a delivery date to my products?
If you need to ask your customers about a product-specific delivery date, you can do so by adding a Date Picker to that product page. You can add it under your store admin, in Catalog → Products, product page, the Options tab → Input Type. With this feature, you can allow customers to specify a date. Read more about Options types.
How do I show that a product has free shipping?
Once your product is set for free shipping (see the instruction above), you’ll want to share the news with customers. To show customers this product has free delivery, use Free Shipping Icon or Product Labels apps:
The Free Shipping Icon app displays a free shipping icon with your products. You may customize this icon and set it to display under specific conditions.
The Product Labels app helps you create labels for your storefront. With the customization options, you can add free shipping to specific products throughout your store.
To add the free shipping badge manually:
Locate the image that you want to add a free shipping badge to.
Open the file in any image editor and add the free shipping icon as you wish.
Once you have this set, save the image with a free shipping designation and upload the updated image for the desired product.
